Don't fear, despite the title, I haven't joined Scientology.
Instead, I'm referring to clearing my mind by taking an internet detox. Granted, I work on the internet for my job, but I could really cut back on all my extracurricular online activity.
This is by far my favorite time of year. I absolutely adore living in a state with all four seasons (and people South of Pennsylvania... don't tell me you do, too!) and love the crisp air that comes with the promise of winter. Add in the holidays, Joe's birthday, my birthday, the start of a fresh year and I'm in heaven.
I like to take time this timer to reflect on progress made and set intentions for the year ahead. I think people like me, who have December or January birthdays, get especially sentimental this time of year because we get a fresh start in more ways than one.
I use this time of year to set goals: Visualize, prioritize, and organize! I think that's really important as we're seeing friends and family (and everyone has an opinion!) at holiday gatherings, se we can feel centered and self-assured.
This year, I'm stepping away from social media to really feel centered and ready for 2018. I deleted Instagram and Youtube off my phone a week ago (I got rid of Facebook years ago) and am stepping away from blogs and blogging, too. I can't tell you how much time I've freed just by getting rid of Instagram already.
I have a lot of balls up in the air in terms of my internet responsibilities outside of my job... blogs, my podcast, freelance articles, and some other projects I'm not ready to share. I'm at the point now where I can't continue all of them, and I need to decide which things to let go of pretty soon. I'm hoping some time away will bring some clarity.
I think I'll pick back up on January 15th, the day after my 29th (eeek!) birthday. I hope all of you enjoy this holiday season as much as I do and remember to care for yourself first! See you in 2018!
