One of the most common things I get asked is "Are you watching...?" Or, "Did you ever watch...?" So, here's the complete list of everything I've been watching lately. Brace yourselves, I love me some TV:
Game of Thrones: Okay, so it ended last week, but I am mourning its absence. If you haven't given GoT a try, now is an awesome time to catch up! If you do watch, who do you want on the throne? Cersei is my favorite character, but I'll forego spoilers here.
Real Housewives of Dallas: Dang, talk about an upgrade! If you tried to watch the pilot season last year and couldn't get into it, try again this season... it's WAY better. I don't like Kameron, one of the new cast members, at all, but everyone else cracks me up. I think the reason it's so much better this season is because the first season was actually shot as a reality show about Texas charities... not a Real Housewives franchise. So, they reworked the footage into Real Housewives and it made it awkward. This season is juicy and fun. And Cary's husband still sucks.
Real Housewives of OC: Everything I praise the Dallas season for is everything this season's RHOC is missing. I knew I wouldn't like it once I heard Heather quit, but bringing back Meghan and Lydia only rubbed salt into the wound. These ladies are homophobic, middle class, and downright mean most of the time. I like my housewives shows to be rich, flashy, and frivolous... leave the custody battles and religion out of it, please!
Ozark: This is a new Netflix show that I think I've watched four episodes of so far? It's okay, not amazing. I find I'm never really in the mood to watch it and I'm thinking that might be because I don't actually like it all that much.
The Deuce: We watched the pilot episode of this new HBO 8-part porn/sex work series last night. It's definitely gritty and uncomfortable a lot of the time(on purpose), but I'm looking forward to seeing where the characters go as the season progresses. I've enjoyed reading interviews with the show's creators and appreciate they're deliberately making a sex drama that is not supposed to be sexy at all. I'm intrigued. Maggie Gyllenhaal's acting is reason enough to watch the first episode. Oh, and James Franco's nude bum.
Hard Knocks: If you like the NFL, this show should be required viewing. Every Summer, HBO airs a documentary about one of the training camps for an NFL team. This year it's the Tampa Bay Bucs and the production quality is as amazing as ever. For being a sports documentary, the music, humor, and cinematography is in a league of its own (pun intended).
Hollywood Game Night: Sometimes, I really want to have a drink and watch something light-hearted and fun. While my favorite shows for that are Top Chef and Great British Baking Show, neither of those have seasons airing right now. This show is super fun and I'm an encyclopedia of pop culture knowledge, so I must admit I enjoy watching a game show and getting all the answers right for once.
Riverdale: I finished this one last month, but am considering rewatching once I finish Gossip Girl. Iget sucked into teen dramas QUICKLY, so I do my research before devouring one. Riverdale was every bit as quirky and faux0dark as critics promised. If you like teen dramas, I can't recommend this one enough. I just love the cast and the whole feel of it, it's a lot of fun. Season 1 is available on Netflix now and I'm eagerly anticipating season 2!
Gossip Girl: I have no shame in my love for this series. I read all of the Gossip Girl books when I was a teenager and hung on every word. When the show came out, I was fully prepared to hate it, but I loved it from episode one. This is a show, like Gilmore Girls, that I often just put on in the background for comfort. However, I decided to rewatch the series from start to finish recently and am enjoying every freaking minute. Dorota and Chuck Bass give me life.
